Goodbye to Little Soldier

February 1, 2023 was a very sad, sad day for my youngest daughter and her boyfriend.  Their sweet little Soldier passed away around 1:00 am in the morning.

Soldier was one of those cats that just steals your heart.  She had been with my daughter since the day when she "picked" my daughter to be hers at the pet store.  She had just turned 12 years old in October.

Beautiful little Soldier.

While they don't know what happened to her for sure, the vets suspected she had cancer.  She had gone from a healthy weight of almost 10lbs to just over 6lbs in a matter of months, and had started having trouble breathing at times.  Her spleen was enlarged and there appeared to be a tumor on it in the X-ray.  Her lungs were also covered with what looked like white "fluff" in the X-ray.

Since they don't yet have a home of their own, they asked if they could bring her back here to be buried.  They buried her beside my daughter's childhood best friend Toby (the bestest dog in the whole world).

Soldier is buried beside Toby, with a large rock to mark the spot until I can get some flowers planted.  Toby's grave is planted with daffodils that make a beautiful bouquet every spring.

I will plant some pretty flowers on Soldier's grave when the weather warms up this spring.

Soldier came to my daughter's boyfriend in a dream that night.  He said that was her way of making sure they were Ok.  I think that's true.

Farewell little Soldier.  You knew how loved you were.

Update February 24, 2023:  Soldier's headstone arrived, so today my daughter brought it out and we placed it on her grave.  It's temporarily resting on some bricks, but when the weather warms up, we plan to pour a concrete pad and place the stone in the wet concrete so it will be better protected.  We'll plant some pretty flowers all around so it will be a beautiful and restful spot for her little kitty.
